FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 11,000 families, and have made available nearly three million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House! In addition to constructing new houses, Fisher House Foundation continues to support existing Fisher Houses and help individual military families in need. We are also proud to administer and sponsor Scholarships for Military Children, the Hero Miles program, and co-sponsor the Newman's Own Award. Monies will be collected to help build another Fisher House.
-----------
The closest Fisher House is in Albany, NY. For Kids Helping Kids his year donations, both monetary and items, have included Fisher House. I have been in contact with Mr. Jensen to see what is on their wish list. He stated baking items such as brownie mixes or others, Walmart gift cards, Price Chopper gift cards, CDs and DVDs. For those of you that live out of state check out their website to see if there is a Fisher House near you that you could go visit or participate in their activities. Look in the Washington Elm Society newsletter TWIGs to get the address if you will be sending the items yourselves. Please bring items to the meetings so we can send them some packages to cheer them up!

STATE PRESIDENT'S PROJECT
NJCAR State President NJCAR Sr State PresidentJenna Horner Mrs. Amy Wittorff
Honoring New Jersey’s Real Daughters
The goal of this project is to raise funds for the purchase and installation of DAR insignia markers on the graves of New Jersey’s Real Daughters. There are 12 New Jersey Real Daughters as well as 5 Real Daughters who were members of DAR chapters from other states but are buried in New Jersey. Although some of these graves have already been marked with a Real Daughter plaque, some have not yet received this designation. A Real Daughter is a woman who joined the DAR whose father was a Revolutionary Patriot. In the early years the Real Daughter Committee was marking the graves of any daughter of a Revolutionary Patriot.
The goal is to raise funds to place markers on the graves of NJ Real Daughters. Jenna Horner will have the following for raffle gifts: a signed lithograph by Linda Nelson Stocks "Celebrating the Fourth" depicting a country square decorated for the Fourth of July and also 4 baskets.
